Kohli has a very famous anecdote of his young days. When he was playing first class cricket, his father passed away. Kohli was then in the middle of a match. He was then part of the Delhi Ranji Trophy team and was far from an established batsman.
The next day, he had to bat and the Delhi boy found himself in a fix. He then went to pick up Ishant Sharma on the scooter and the two rode to the ground. Kohli not only batted in the match but scored a match saving half century.
Interestingly, no one knew that his father had passed away. The team members came to know that only when Ishant Sharma broke the news. Kohli gets very emotional while narrating the incident.
He dedicates the knock to his father and is very thankful for bringing him up in the manner in which he has. The Indian Captain talks very highly of his father and the inspiration that his parents have been in his life. The 29-year-old is a family man and makes no bones about it.
