Wankhede Stadium T20 records: Wankhede Stadium Mumbai T20 records and highest innings totals

International cricket will return to Mumbai after 13 months as the financial capital of India will be hosting the first of 19 matches during the ongoing winter season.

One of the 17 venues to host these matches between January 3 – March 22, the iconic Wankhede Stadium will be hosting the first T20I against Sri Lanka on Tuesday. Although the city has hosted dozens of Indian Premier League matches across venues lately, it will be hosting a T20I after more than three years.

India, who’ve played four out of the seven Mumbai T20Is till date, have won and lost a couple of matches each here. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, had lost their lone T20I at this stadium over half-a-decade ago.

Wankhede Stadium T20 records

Highest run-scorers in Mumbai T20Is are Virat Kohli (197), Rohit Sharma (165), Joe Root (131), Chris Gayle (105) and Quinton de Kock (97). Barring Dasun Shanaka (29), Sadeera Samarawickrama (21), Hardik Pandya (4) and Washington Sundar, no other player of the current squads has played a T20I here.

Highest T20I wicket-takers at this venue are Kyle Abbott (5), Chris Morris (4), Kagiso Rabada (4), Yuvraj Singh (3) and Imran Tahir (3). As far as the player of the current squads are concerned, Pandya (2), Shanaka (2) and Sundar (1) have tasted some success at the Wankhede Stadium.

Although current Indian and Sri Lankan players haven’t played a lot of T20Is at this stadium but one can’t discount the fact that the likes of Pandya, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav (local player) have a lot of experience of playing here due to their past/ongoing association with Indian Premier League franchise Mumbai Indians.

Highest innings totals in Mumbai T20Is

The above mentioned second-highest T20I innings totals at the Wankhede Stadium is also the highest successful run-chase here. It is worth mentioning that five out of the seven Mumbai T20Is have been won by the team batting second. Four out of these five successful run-chases have witnessed teams scoring in excess of 175 runs in the second innings at this venue which generally favours the batters.
