Mercedes might not have their upgrade ready for the French GP
Mercedes find themselves at the top of the constructor’s championship one-third way into the season but face massive problems with respect to their car during this crucial phase.
All cars came up with significant engine upgrades for the Canadian GP, and while Mercedes too were slated for an upgrade, technical issues caused the upgrade to be delayed.
The delay did cause a lot of trouble to Mercedes in Canada as Hamilton couldn’t manage a podium on his favourite circuit and even complained of loss of power during the race.
Mercedes had admitted that the upgrade was delayed because of some technical issues and that the engineers needed some more time in order to get the engine track ready. The upgrade was certain to make it way into the French GP.
However, the rumour mill, according to Motorsport Italia suggests that Mercedes are finding it tough to get that update ready before the French GP and the team faces a race against time to ensure that the new engine gets onto those W09’s in France.
A decision is expected to be taken after the first free practice session in France and if Mercedes in fact do not have their upgraded engine in France, it would mean a massive disadvantage for their team, considering the fact that their first engine has completed more than the recommended 5000 km.
Rival teams would be hoping for goof up on part of the Mercedes team as a loss in points in France could severely affect their chances to win the constructor’s title and would definitely help Vettel increase his lead at the top of the driver’s standings.
Can Mercedes deliver in time?
