“Haan, haan, tu toh boost he piyega na?”:When Arjun Tendulkar was taunted by a teammate with reference to a popular Sachin Tendulkar advertisement
There is no denying the fact that the star kids especially this day and age do get the head-start when it comes to decision making with respect their career choices. There are certain privileges in terms of opportunities, in terms of ideal facilities and means to reach one’s goal when one is the ward of a renowned personality regardless the field.
Having said that, in order to stand out of the parent’s shadow and make a similar mark or even more in a particular field for a sustained period or otherwise, the amount of hard work required to put in is the same as that for a commoner.
When Arjun Tendulkar, son of the legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar scored a century in his maiden First-Class appearance for the state of Goa a few days ago, media’s focus was yet again on the star kid and very little on the other players who performed better than him in that very match. Things media have to do for the news value.
Regardless, the journey traversed by Arjun so far in his short career has been far from easy. With opportunities hard to come by to represent his home team of Mumbai, Sachin Tendulkar’s son had to look elsewhere for some.
The 23-year-old is still a laughing stock for people whenever the Mumbai Indians (MI) decide to rope him in their squad, despite the franchise having not handed him an opportunity to make an IPL debut for the past three years.
When Arjun Tendulkar was taunted by a teammate in Mumbai back in 2015
As per an article from the Indian Express, back in the year 2015 during Arjun Tendulkar’s teenage days of playing the sport, he was made uncomfortable with the reminder of being the son of the most revered figure in Indian Cricket, in the most strangest manner possible.
Arjun had chopped a delivery on to the stumps while playing a match during the Kanga League – a wet-weather tournament played in the grounds of South Mumbai.
Perhaps disappointed with the dismissal, Tendulkar was sitting in a miffed mood when one of his teammates offered him a cup of tea in a plastic cup.
“Eh, chai peeyega? (like to have some tea?)”, asked his teammate. After shaking his head in denial, the same voice went, ““Haan, haan, tu toh boost he piyega na? (Yes, yes, all you’ll have is ‘Boost’ isn’t it? )”.
The reply did startle Arjun a bit, made him uncomfortable, but deep down must have also realized that he might have to live with such constant jibes directed at him for most parts of his Cricketing career.
