“Most of the Drivers Are Bloody Boring”: Former Red Bull Driver Retorts to Max Verstappen Jibe Against DTS

Max Verstappen made a heavy tantrum against Netflix’s docu-series on Formula 1 called Drive To Survive. The Dutchman refused to sit for the interviews last season when he accused them of fabricating things.

He even had a problem with Lando Norris’ projection last season and said they made him “look like a dick”. Many fans also had issues with DTS altering the ground reality to make the show attractive to the new audience.

But during the 2022 season, Verstappen announced that he would sit for the interviews this time. He even appeared in the first look of DTS season 5, which Netflix released on Friday.

Former Red Bull driver feels let Netflix do things

While a prominent section of F1 stakeholders isn’t finding all the dramatization of F1 on the OTT platform anymore. There is a deviant voice in the paddock of David Coulthard. He wants Netflix to continue the drama as he doesn’t find F1 drivers interesting.

“It makes them all seem more interesting than they are. Most of the drivers are bloody boring, to be honest! Netflix makes them seem quite interesting!” he said on Balls.ie.

Coulthard also claims that if things are only slightly exaggerated or let it be as they have been during the races, the series wouldn’t be fun overall. Therefore, he thinks let entertainment be entertainment.

There are a few other voices in the paddock that feel that DTS should be more recognized for their contribution to F1 instead of their drawbacks. The biggest boon to f1 has been their popularity in the US because of the series.

Max Verstappen criticized for his DTS appearance

In August, Verstappen declared that he’d return to F1 only on his terms. He wanted a say in how he’ll be projected among the fans from the next season onwards. And now, since it has been sorted, he seems to be appearing in the next season.

But this isn’t going well with the fans, who call him a hypocrite online. Many believe that since the narrative has turned in his favour, he’s okay with being shown in the series.

Many even wondered what promises Netflix probably had made to get him back on their show. Verstappen this year hardly had any controversy, except for his tensions with his teammate in Brazil.

It remains to be seen how that will be projected in the upcoming season. Or will that even come on the screen? Over the last two years, Netflix has been criticized for leaving out some key moments from the season in their coverage.
