“Stephen Curry Should’ve Been League MVP for Past Decade!”: ESPN’s Jeff Van Gundy Showers Praise on Warriors’ 8x All-Star

The NBA is a highly competitive league, with each player having passed several hoops to get there. Your average NBA player is much, much better than any troll on Twitter who claims they can do better. Within the league, the players get further classified. There are your role players, starters, rising stars, stars, and superstars. And then comes a league higher than the rest, the players who transcend the game. Stephen Curry falls in that league.

Over the course of his 14-year NBA career, Steph has changed the game of basketball quite literally. He not only revolutionized the game but also did so while winning consistently. He is a 4x NBA Champion, 2x MVP, 1x Finals MVP, 2x Scoring Champion, 8x All-Star, and well, let’s not get started on his shooting accolades.

ESPN’s Jeff Van Gundy spoke about the Chef recently on the Lowe Post Podcast. Here is what he said.

Jeff Van Gundy believes Stephen Curry should have been MVP for the last decade

This season, the Golden State Warriors have not quite been what one expects of the defending champions. They’ve been very inconsistent, and injuries have been a bother for them, yet again. Talking about them and the MVP race on the Lowe Podcast, ESPN’s Jeff Van Gundy said,

“You can make the case to me, year in & year out… you could make a strong case he’s been the most valuable player in the league over the past decade.”

JVG, no matter what he says on the sidelines as a caster, does recognize how valuable Stephen Curry is to the Warriors, and to the league. He has been a consistent shining spot for the Warriors, even when things looked bad for the team.

The Warriors need Steph and without him, they wouldn’t have won these four championships over the last eight years.

Can Steph win his 3rd MVP?

This year, before he got injured, Stephen Curry was putting up numbers better than the year he won his unanimous MVP. If we think about it, the season Curry won the unanimous MVP was one of the greatest offensive seasons for the 6ft 2″ guard.

Somehow, at 34 years of age, Curry won a championship and came back even better. However, the Warriors’ record is the one thing because of which we didn’t see Steph on any of the MVP ladders. Considering how we’re already mid-way through the season, it would be hard to see Steph winning his 3rd MVP honor this year.
