Lucas Torreira set to have medical after Arsenal agrees £26.5m deal
Arsenal have been linked relentlessly with the signing of Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira.
The North London club is set for its fourth summer buy of the season. Arsenal are hoping to seal the signing of Lucas Torreira before the midfielder flies to Uruguay. Lucas Torreira was with his national team as they were defeated in the quarterfinal of the World Cup by France.
The Gunners have agreed a £26.5m deal with Sampdoria for the transfer of Lucas Torreira, and the midfielder is reportedly set to fly to London for medical.
According to the reports, the deal was agreed before the World Cup but the player denied to sealing the transfer as he prioritised preparations with the national team. Now, however, Lucas Torreira says that he has ample time to consider his future.
“The World Cup is important and being part of this squad meant a lot to me. But now I have more time my future will be very clear,” Torreira said.

Arsenal wants to complete the deal as soon as possible as Unai Emery wants to focus purely on the preparations for the next season. The Arsenal head coach began the training for new season earlier this week.
On Twitter, Lucas Torreira’s friend, Felipe Sanchez posted a selfie with the player to inform the supporters about his move.
