Novak Djokovic ‘fake throws’ ball at umpire after warning
Novak Djokovic entered the semifinal of Wimbledon.
The Serbian star eased through to the semifinal round of Wimbledon 2018. Djokovic beat Japan’s Kei Nishikori in a four-setter match, 6-3 3-6 6-2 6-2. This is his first Wimbledon semifinal appearance since 2015.
It was the performance of strong resolve and resilience from Djokovic.
“It feels great to be in the last four of a Slam. I’ve been building in the past couple of weeks. The level of tennis has been going up in the past couple of months and tournaments,” Djokovic said after the match.
“This is not the first time I have been in the semi-finals here but I will try to enjoy this victory.
“I am very grateful to play on the court I love [Centre Court] and to be competing at a high level. I am trying to get in the best possible shape for the biggest possible events and it doesn’t come much bigger that Wimbledon.”
In 2015, when he last reached the Wimbledon semifinal, he went on to win the tournament.
The fake-throw incident:
During the match, Djokovic was involved in a rather funny incident with the chair umpire, even when the Serb was genuinely annoyed.
It happened in the final set of the match, with Djokovic leading 4-2. The chair umpire was giving him the ‘Delay of Game’ warning, and when Djokovic finished the game to lead 5-2, he ‘fake-threw’ the ball towards the chair umpire, while saying something under his breath.
