Red Bull junior Dan Ticktum banned from post Hungary test session
Red Bull has a strong legacy of bringing the best junior talent to F1. Vettel, Verstappen, Ricciardo, Sainz and Gasly are all products of the Red Bull lineage and are working wonders in F1 currently.
Dan Ticktum, a Red Bull junior is being prepared for entry into F1. However, he doesn’t have enough super license points in order to take part in the post Hungary test session.
14 super license points are needed to be able to take part in an official test session and Ticktum currently has 0.
Red Bull having lining Ticktum up to replace Brendon Hartley at Toro Rosso, but Ticktum is running out of time and as FIA have banned him from featuring in the Hungary test, he will not be able to drive for Toro Rosso next season.
Now, Ticktum is second in the European F3 championship and a title win would help him earn a free practice session at Abu Dhabhi. However, that wouldn’t be enough to guarantee him a Toro Rosso seat for next year.
The new points system has been put in place because of Red Bull bringing Verstappen into F1 after just 1 season of car racing.
Helmut Marko isn’t very impressed with the new system and the rules and has hit out at the same.
“He drives great races in Formula 3 but has not yet scored the points for the license. How are we supposed to bring our young drivers to Formula 1?” Marko said.
Now, Ticktum could actually force his way into F1 by winning the F3 title and finishing third or higher in Super formula.
