Lewis Hamilton acts like Jesus, says Villeneuve
Lewis Hamilton has always received some slack for his behaviour on and off the race track, as Hamilton’s eccentric and outgoing personality sometimes does not bode well with onlookers of the sport.
The Brit was booed at Hockenheim during the driver’s parade and he did bring up that point later on in the weekend, when he said that the boos motivated him to do well.
Villeneuve believes that Hamilton shouldn’t really be surprised by the boos because of his own actions.
“Lewis should not be surprised. He confuses F1 with Hollywood. Everything he does is staged.
“He portrays himself on social media like he is Jesus. The way he knelt next to his car after his problem in qualifying looked like the suffering of Christ. And what he said afterwards was the Sermon on the Mount.
“Then he gestured so dramatically on the podium that everyone could see who sent the sudden rain.” Villeneuve said.
Hamilton’s social media activity has often been scrutinised by fans and critics alike, as they feel he goes a little too overboard with his words and actions.
However, that is not the case with the Mercedes management, who actually want Hamilton to be his own self on social media.
Wolff has given Hamilton to be his self on Instagram(a platform that Hamilton uses most), as Wolff feels the sports needs ‘controversies’ and ‘polarising stances’.
“I actually encouraged him to leave all that stuff online and speak his mind. It is what we need. We need to create stories. We need controversies. We need polarising stances.” Wolff said.
Do you think Hamilton should tone down his social media and on track antics or do you feel it adds to the spice of the sport?
