Was Rohit Sharma Not Out Today: Mumbai Indians Captain’s Dismissal vs Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium Sparks Debate
Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma (3) was their first batter to get out in a mammoth 213-run chase in Indian Premier League 2023 Match 42 against Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium tonight. With the home team chasing what could be their highest successful run-chase and second-highest at this venue, they were in desperate need of Sharma leading from the front with the bat in hand.
While the sight of losing their skipper cheaply was hard to digest for MI’s fans, his mode of dismissal further made it difficult for them to come to terms for the sequence of events on the last delivery of the second over of the innings.
For starters, it all happened after Rohit was utterly deceived by a Sandeep Sharma knuckle ball. With him aiming to make room for himself to play the ball through the off-side, a comparatively slower delivery saw him going nowhere as far as execution was concerned.
Sharma’s fans, however, are claiming across social media platforms that the right-handed batter wasn’t out. With RR captain Sanju Samson keeping up to the stumps, he is alluring accusations of dislodging the bails with his wicket-keeping gloves. Videos doing the rounds on social media insist that the bails hadn’t been dislodged due to the ball touching the top of the off-stump but due to Samson’s foul play.

Although one understands Sharma’s fans point of view, he appeared to be out at the time of the dismissal. Furthermore, it is worth mentioning that the camera angle in the aforementioned video isn’t the best to come to a conclusion whether Samson’s gloves had dislodged the bails or not.
Therefore, it wouldn’t be right to claim Rohit Sharma not out by keeping just this video in mind. A side-on angle from either the point region or the square leg umpire’s position would be an ideal camera angle for such type of dismissals.
