Fernando Alonso Provides Massive Update About His F1 Future After Strong Start to 2023 Season
Star Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso has provided a massive update about his future in the sport. The Spaniard, who turns 42 later this July, has shown no signs of slowing down and has often suggested that he continues to dream of winning a third world championship.
However, the question remains about how much does Alonso actually still have remaining in the tank because of his increasing age? As per his recent interview, he still has plenty more.
While speaking to MARCA, he seemed to suggest that he will race at least until 2025, and if he believes that there is a possibility to fight for the title, he may also extend his contract. “Things seem to be going better than we expected and maybe that means being tempted to extend the contract in the future,” Alonso explained.
Alonso provides a realistic timeline of when Aston Martin can fight for the title
When asked when can Aston Martin pose a realistic fight for the championship, Fernando Alonso replied (as quoted by MARCA), “We think that in 2024 we can have an option and in 2025 have another option as well. Then in 2026 it will be a bit of a reset and you don’t know what can happen”, he explained.

As for the 2023 season, the 41-year-old ruled out a fight for the title as he believes that Red Bull are way too strong. The Milton Keynes outfit have showcased their might this season as they have won all four races so far. Reigning Drivers’ Champion Max Verstappen has won two, with his teammate Sergio Perez winning the other two.
Fernando Alonso has an outstanding start to the 2023 season
While Fernando Alonso has not been able to match the pace of the two Red Bulls, he more often than not has found himself as the best of the rest. The Spaniard has so far had three third-place finishes and one fourth-place finish in the last race in Baku. Consequently of these results, he has scored 60 points and is third in the championship.
He is 27 points behind second-placed Sergio Perez and another six points behind championship leader Max Verstappen. Considering the start that Alonso has had to this season, he could fancy a race win at some point in this season provided some luck goes his way.
