“Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Warriors”: Golden State Fans Push For Greek Freak Teaming up with Stephen Curry Next Season

Warriors fans are clamoring for their front office to make a trade to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo in exchange for some of their All-Stars. These cries come on the back of the team’s 2nd round elimination against the Lakers last night.

Warriors fans and Bucks fans both have a few things in common. Bucks fans will still be seething from their first-round exit at the hands of Jimmy Butler’s Heat. Golden State fans, meanwhile, are seeing their dynasty winding down through Steph’s best years.

Curry is already 35 years old, and he can’t have too many incandescent scoring years left in his tank at this point. The onus, therefore, is on Bob Myers and the front office to find him the supporting cast he needs for championship contention.

With Klay Thompson and Draymond Green clearly past their athletic primes, something’s gotta give for them. And Warriors fans believe that the answer is trading for another 2-time MVP to star alongside Steph.

NBA Twitter is abuzz with rumors linking Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Warriors

Since the Warriors’ Game 6 loss last night and playoff elimination, NBA Twitter – dominated by Lakers and Warriors fans – are suggesting that Giannis Antetokounmpo could get traded to Golden State this offseason.

Some funny callbacks to Draymond Green texting Kevin Durant from the Oracle Arena parking lot in 2016 are also doing the rounds.

Draymond Green has been spotted in the Crypto Arena parking lot, sitting in his car crying on the phone.

Of course, no such suggestion is rational. Yet, the buzz is there because it seems like a match made in heaven. The NBA’s most intimidating interior player paired with its most spectacular perimeter scorer? You bet.

How would a prospective trade for Giannis work?

There’s no doubt that even on his worst days, Giannis Antetokounmpo is better than 95% of the NBA. His freakish athleticism combined with his relentlessly physical play makes him a handful on every game night.

The nature of his two-way play means that the Warriors could get rid of their best defenders without much damage. Both Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins would have to be included in any deal.

The Warriors would also need to trade a copious amount of picks – at least 3 – to acquire a player who’s always in MVP contention. But the price will likely be well worth it.
