F1 Finally Learns From Belgian GP Mistakes as Imola Organizers Do the Right Thing by Fans
The 2021 Belgian GP remains a great spectacle in the sport’s recent past. With the heavy downpour during Sunday’s event, the gloomy day promised an exciting race. But instead, all fans got was quality memes and two laps behind a safety car. The Imola GP faced a similar fate when F1 decided to wisely cancel the race instead of risking lives.
After the disappointed and drenched fans left the Spa circuit in 2021, the question remained if they would get a refund for witnessing nothing. Drivers demanded that their fans get a refund. But, eventually, the decision made was not as honorable.
The ticket holders were pacified with a prize draw for 170 tickets for the following season’s race, with gold, bronze, silver, and VIP tickets up for grabs.
Additionally, they were offered free personal invites to exclusive F1 events. But fans were far from happy. Now, it seems a lesson has been learned.
Imola GP fans receive full refunds for the canceled event
Not only were fans pleased with the responsible decision to cancel the race but also what followed.
Fans who missed out on the event were provided with two options. They could either convert their tickets for the 2024 Grand Prix or opt for full reimbursement.

While things could have gone south in this situation as well, the decision made reflects a great learning curve for the sport. As many lives were lost and endangered in the region, the call made was the right one.
Further, F1 drivers have also been urging their followers to donate to the people affected in the area, as the situation only worsens.
F1 releases official statement
The F1 personnel in Imola were made to evacuate on Tuesday afternoon, owing to the threat of the Santerno River flooding the area. Images of a half-sunken paddock raised caution within the F1 community.
With rain relentlessly pouring down, they were advised to stay away from the area. Looking at the situation, F1 authorities were cognizant of their responsibility towards the community and canceled the race.

The statement read: “The decision has been taken because it is not possible to safely hold the event for our fans, the teams and our personnel and it is the right and responsible thing to do given the situation faced by the towns and cities in the region. It would not be right to put further pressure on the local authorities and emergency services at this difficult time.”
As a result, we’re back to a 22-calendar this season as the Imola GP will not be rescheduled on the 2023 calendar. Now, all eyes on Monaco.
