LSG New Jersey Against KKR: Why Are Lucknow Super Giants Wearing Mohun Bagan Jersey?
The “new jersey” bug is catching up among Indian Premier League franchises with Lucknow Super Giants becoming the latest one to announce a second jersey during the ongoing 16th season of the tournament. Currently into their second season of the IPL, LSG had already altered the color of their jersey ahead of IPL 2023.
Led by Krunal Pandya at the moment, the development will see him walking on the lines of younger brother Hardik Pandya. For the unversed, Hardik-led Gujarat Titans had worn a lavender jersey in contrast to their grey jersey during a home match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Monday.
In doing so, Super Giants will become the fourth IPL franchise after GT, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals to have two separate jerseys for one IPL season. Unlike the two newest IPL franchises, RCB have been wearing a green jersey in one of their afternoon home matches of the season since 2011. DC, meanwhile, have been wearing a rainbow jersey since 2020.
LSG New Jersey Against KKR
Slated to face Kolkata Knight Riders in their last league match of the season at the Eden Gardens tomorrow, Lucknow will be wearing a maroon jersey (with green stripes) which has been inspired by Indian Super League franchise Mohun Bagan Super Giant.
It is worth a mention that both the cricket and football franchises are owned by Sanjiv Goenka (Chairperson of RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group). Prior to owning these two franchises, Goenka had also owned Rising Pune Supergiants for a couple of IPL seasons between 2016-2017.
With Kolkata being the football club’s home city, Krunal Pandya and his men will be donning a jersey similar to theirs in a bid to allure more support from fans during an away contest. Playing at this iconic venue for the first time, it remains unknown if Super Giants will be always wearing this jersey here or will it just be a one-match affair.

“Wherever you go, the more support you get, the better you do. So, I request all Mohun Bagan supporters to come out and cheer for us. Our focus is to go out there and play cricket the way Lucknow is known to play,” Krunal told reporters as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
