Before His Last Game With Lakers, Dennis Rodman Faced ‘Violent Threats’ From a Stalker For Ignoring Her Request

In 1999, Dennis Rodman was about to play his last game during his short stint with the Los Angeles Lakers. However, he was haunted by another violent incident. A woman stalked and threatened him for a long time. Rodman, who played his last game for the Lakers on April 13, 1999, claimed he was bothered by a lady called Marie Boguszewski through incessant emails.

The lady even threatened to murder Dennis’ agents when she could not contact the star player. However, later Boguzewski was charged with stalking and making terrorist threats. All as part of her attempt to set up a date with Rodman.

Dennis Rodman was once stalked by a woman who gave death threats to his agency

Marie Boguzewski, a 36-year-old woman from Bradley, Illinois, was convicted of sending hundreds of emails and telephonic messages to set up a date with Dennis Rodman. Sources such as the Associated Press and LA Times, from their published pieces in 1999, claim that the woman had been stalking Rodman since his time at the Chicago Bulls.

Dwight Manley Inc., Rodman’s former agent, said they had received several emails requesting a date with the basketball star. However, when all those attempts were unsuccessful, she sent murder threats to Rodman’s agents. As the prosecutors in the case had noted, Boguzewski threatened to kill three employees from Dwight Manley Inc. if her demands were not followed up.

This was not all. The woman was also convicted in a different case pending a trial in Illinois. This case was taken up further for trial in Orange County, California. Boguzeweski pleaded guilty to 10 counts of misdemeanor related to phone calls and electronic stalking.

Dennis Rodman’s stalker ordered $50,0000 bail for stalking the basketball star

In the subsequent trial, Marie Boguzewski pleaded guilty to all counts of terrorist threats and electronic stalking. In case of conviction, the potential punishment was up to five years in jail. However, the order was held for a bail amount of $50,000.

All felony charges for making terrorist threats and electronic threats were later dropped for Boguzewksi for pleading guilty. Judge Susanne Shaw of the Orange County Superior Court’s Harbor Justice Center sentenced the woman to one year in jail and three years of probation. She was also given a restraining order to stay at least 500 yards away from Rodman, his ex-wife Carmen Electra, and the three agents she had threatened.

This episode was perhaps one of the most horrifying ones for Dennis Rodman and the entire NBA history.
