WATCH: Ericsson involved in massive crash in Free Practice
Ericsson has suffered a massive crash on Turn 1 during free practice at Monza, with his car crashing into the barrier and then flipping multiple times before coming to a halt.
The crash induced a red flag, but most importantly Ericsson is completely fine and has already spoken to the media about the crash.
While Ericsson was not aware of the reasons for the crash, it has been figured out that the DRS was open while breaking and that largely led to the crash.
And it not only failed to close when Ericsson hit the brakes, but it stayed up until he hit the wall.
Twitter was ablaze after that horrific crash and felt relieved that Ericsson was fine.
Massive, massive crash for Ericsson at Turn One. Flips, somersaults, the lot. He’s fine. What on earth happened? https://t.co/ftU9zV661u

That’s a horrible crash for Ericsson. The wheel tethers did an incredible job though given the ferocity of the barrel roll.

Jolyon Palmer, commentating, says he thinks the DRS might not have shut on Ericsson’s car – from watching the final replay. He’s not completely sure

FIA will investigate the incident and come to a conclusion as to why the crash took place. But at the moment everyone is just relieved that Ericsson came out of the crash unhurt.
