Has Venus Williams Hinted at What She Will Do Post Retirement Following Wimbledon Loss to Elina Svitolina?
American tennis star Venus Williams has been on tour on the tennis circuit for decades now. AT 43, it is a marvel that she is still very much fit and able to put in the rigorous hours required to be able to play the sport at a professional level. Unfortunately, she could not get past the first round at Wimbledon 2023, going down to Elina Svitolina 4-6, 3-6.
While Venus has defied all expectations to keep going even after almost three decades of turning professional in the sport, it won’t be too long before she calls it quits surely. And one of her answers during her post match press conference may have hinted at what she would get into after she retires from the sport. She has a great collection of contemporary art, modern art in particular.
Venus Williams Has Done Wonders Outside the Tennis Courts Too
Besides tennis, Williams has a fascination for art and has quite the collection of art work and curates charity auctions. She raised close to six million dollars when she co-curated a charity auction for the preservation of the African-American’s in North Carolina. The function was held in New York this year in May.
Speaking on her fascination for art, Williams stated,
“I am an art appreciator. Art is my favorite thing in life. Pretty much all I think of all day – outside of tennis. You’d be surprised (smiling). At the moment I’ve moved from contemporary, from modern art. It’s always changing and a whole world that I continue to immerse myself in. It’s a lot of joy for me.”
Seeing the seven-time Major winner having such an artistic liking is commendable. Besides tennis and art, Venus is also into interior designing and owns a firm called V Starr, which is located in Florida. She has designed many residences and business houses at the Palm Beach in Florida.
Disappointing Result at the Grand Slam
The former World No. 1 player was speaking to the media post her first round loss at the Wimbledon 2023. She felt short against Elina Svitolina in straight sets. She was competing after a years gap, missing last year due to injury.
The 43-year-old player has been a five-time champion at the Wimbledon Championships. It will be interesting to see if she decides to hang he boots anytime soon. However, fans would like to see her as much as possible on the tennis courts competing against the best players.
Speaking on her legacy, she reached her first Grand Slam final in 1997 at the US Open. Besides her heroics in the singles, she has created history in the women’s doubles, winning each of the Majors at least twice, partnering her legendary sister, Serena Williams. Both the sisters have taken this sport to astonishing heights.
