7 Years After Admitting to Having McDonald’s on Sixers’ Practice Bikes, Charles Barkley Recalled Hating When Players Showed Up Late With Fast Food
NBA legend Charles Barkley is now a wholesome analyst known for his bold and hilarious personality. He speaks his mind without fear, just like he did during his playing days. In February, during an interview on ESPN’s Lead By Example, Barkley criticized some of his former teammates. He didn’t name them but expressed his dislike for people who are late. Barkley referred to an incident when two young players arrived 25 minutes late for a team flight, carrying fast food.
This criticism is surprising because Barkley himself is famous for his love of food. Despite being 60 years old, he enjoys various junk fast food options like Krispy Kreme donuts and McDonald’s. 7 years before the aforementioned interview, Barkley openly admitted to eating McDonald’s food while training on bikes during his time with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Charles Barkley claimed he hated “young guys” who showed up late for team commitments
Barkley was asked about a range of topics, including his views on tardiness. The Round Mound of Rebound had said that he viewed being late as being disrespectful to the other person’s time:
“I am a firm believer, when you are late, you’re disrespecting another person’s time. No, we’re not waiting. We had a couple of young guys, they weren’t even stars, they would show up late to the plane, they were 20-25 minutes late, and they show up with fast food, which means, number one, they knew they were f***ing late, and they stopped to get food, which pissed me off even more. The coach was one of the good guys I’ve ever played for, he’s like, he didn’t want any confrontation, I said, we are never going to be anything without confrontation.”
In all fairness to Charles, he had a problem with being late, rather than the fast food. Barkley would probably not have batted an eye had the two youngsters been on time. Rather, the fact that they were late, and still found the time to get the food is what really irked Barkley off.
Barkley is a huge fan of junk food
The 60-year-old’s love for food has been long well-known. In 2016, on his 53rd birthday, his TNT colleagues including Shaquille O’Neal gifted him 53 dozen Krispy Kreme donuts.
Barkley himself has admitted to once eating 12 Krispy Kreme donuts in a day. He ate nothing else the entire day and once explained vehemently how Krispy Kreme donuts were the best “donuts in the world,” according to Journal Now.
Apart from being a huge Krispy Kreme fan, Barkley’s love for fast food of all kinds is also well-documented, which also includes popcorn. Charles had a hugely successful NBA career, but he never ended up winning a single championship, despite being the 1993 MVP and an 11-time All-Star. He is certainly making up for it, in other aspects of his life.
