After signing a lucrative one-year, $35 million extension last offseason in March 2022, Kirk wasted no time investing some of his earnings into the purchase of a picturesque Golf Course in Allegan County in November 2022.
With a career spanning over a decade and currently representing the Minnesota Vikings, Kirk Cousins made a unique investment in the Golf Course with the intention of preserving its natural beauty. Recognizing the significance of the community and the golf club’s history, Cousins was motivated to ensure that the course remained a cherished asset for generations to come.
Kirk Cousins Preserves Community Treasure With His Investment in Clearbrook Golf Course
Kirk Cousins and his wife Julie acquired Clearbrook Golf Course in Allegan County last year. The purchase came as a commitment to preserving this community treasure for future generations. Current owners Jim and Candy Jeltema are continuing to operate the golf course under Cousins’ ownership, ensuring the continuity of its operations.
According to Golf Digest, in a letter addressed to the community, Kirk and his wife Julie expressed their love for the Saugatuck/Douglas area and their desire to maintain the golf course’s legacy. Kirk had acknowledged the significance of Clearbrook Golf Course as a community asset and vowed to keep it intact for the benefit of the next generation. He said,
“As we discussed the history of the golf club with Jim, we agreed it is a community treasure and should remain a golf course for the next generation,” he further added, “We want to invest in this great community, and we see this purchase as an opportunity to do just that, maintaining the life of a golf course that has been in place since 1926.”

Clearbrook Golf Club, established in 1926, has a long-standing history in Allegan County. It offers both public and member play, attracting golf enthusiasts from the West Michigan region. The course boasts one of the area’s top 18 holes, the challenging par 5 fifth hole, which spans 491 yards and presents a test of skill with its two creek crossings.
Kirk Cousins expressed his desire to prevent the transformation of the land into housing developments or vacation rentals, emphasizing the importance of preserving the golf course for the community.
The sale of Clearbrook Golf Course did not include the Grill Room Restaurant, which will remain under the ownership of Jim and Candy Jeltema. This ensures the continued operation of the restaurant, providing a gathering place for golfers and community members.
