Gilbert Arenas believes Derrick Rose can save Ja Morant’s career
The Grizzlies are adding a much-required veteran mentorship after signing Derrick Rose to their roster. The 2011 NBA regular season MVP is a much-needed veteran presence that would help motivate youngsters such as Ja Morant in the Grizzlies roster. Gilbert Arenas thinks D-Rose can motivate and help Ja Morant save his career after his recent gun suspension last season.
D-Rose recently clarified during the NBA media day that he was not here to babysit young players. Knowing the comparisons between him and Ja Morant very well, he mentioned his intentions to push the young players’ potential. Chiming into Derrick Rose’s comments, Gil Arenas had insightful advice for Ja Morant.
“That [D-Rose] was the smartest signing they [Memphis Grizzlies] had this summer. Because Ja is on the way to become D-Rose. When you say who was bigger, D-Rose was bigger. What Ja was displaying, D-Rose comes from that world. So, you have a guy who’s from southside Chicago. Whose family has those type of…this is how he acts. He’s quiet, he has like he don’t say nothing, he don’t talk, he is professional. So, to look at a guy who’s been in your shoes in this world, who has been a star. I mean he’s on 10 signature shoes like he is where you’re trying to get to. Look at his mannerisms, look at how he approaches the game. Look how he approaches it off the court so you get to really watch a superstar to really understand how to be one.”
The video was captioned, “Gilbert Arenas Says D-Rose Will SAVE Ja Morant’s Career”. Gilbert Arenas’ advice came in good faith after much of Ja Morant’s reputation was tarnished following his recent controversies. The young Grizzlies star will start the upcoming 2023-24 season with a 25-game suspension following his recent gun-flashing incident on his Instagram story.
Besides D-Rose, former Celtics star Marcus Smart signed with the Grizzlies this off-season. With two veteran additions to the squad, the Grizzlies surely have great leaders to provide their young core much-required mentorship and guidance through the season.
