Prithvi Shaw punishes Mohammed Siraj: Shaw took on the Hyderabad pacer during the Quarter final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

During the first Quarter final of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy between Mumbai and Hyderabad at Bengaluru, Mumbai defeated Hyderabad by 60 runs (VJD Method). In which was proving to be a cakewalk of a run chase for Mumbai, it was interrupted after rain played the spoilsport.

That being said, Mumbai being way ahead of the opposition saw them entering the finals of the tourney comfortably.

Mumbai opener Prithvi Shaw provided them with a swift start, something which put them ahead in the chase from the word go. In which was his sixth List A half-century, Shaw scored 61 (44) with the help of six fours and two sixes.

Shaw’s innings remained the highlight of Mumbai’s chase. However, the highlight of his innings was his battle with Mohammed Siraj. Introduced into the bowling attack as the first-change bowler in the fifth over, Siraj was hit for a couple of boundaries in the first five balls that he bowled to Shaw.

Coming back strongly, Siraj bowled a spree of short deliveries to the 18-year old batsman who made his Test debut for India against Windies earlier this month. To his likeliness, Siraj made Shaw pull his short balls, albeit high into the air. To his unlikeliness, Siraj saw Ravi Kiran dropping both the chances at fine-leg. It was at this point in time that Siraj might have said a word or two to Shaw.

In his third over, a frustrated Siraj continued to throw a barrage of short deliveries against Shaw. Having said that, the teenage opener hit a couple of sixes and a four this time round to make amends. Shaw’s counterattack worsened Siraj’s figures, who was unfortunate to give away 33 runs in three overs.

Earlier, Hyderabad captain Ambati Rayudu had won the toss and chose to bat. In their allotted quota of 50 overs, Hyderabad had scored 246-8. Rohit Rayudu remained the top-scorer for them, scoring his third List A century, 121* (132), with the help of eight fours and six sixes.

With bowling figures of 10-0-55-3, Tushar Deshpande was the pick of Mumbai’s bowlers and also the ‘Man of the Match’.
