David Warner signs with Sylhet Sixers: The opening batsman from Australia has signed with another T20 franchise.
Australian opening batsman David Warner, who is currently nursing a 12-month ban from international cricket following the infamous ball tampering incident in Cape Town earlier this year, has signed with Sylhet Sixers for the imminent season of the BPL (Bangladesh Premier League).
Since his ban, Sixers will be the 31-year old Warner’s third T20 franchise. He had represented Winnipeg Hawks in the Global T20 Tournament in Canada and St Lucia Stars in the Caribbean Premier League earlier this year.
“I’m very excited to let you know that I’m now a Sixer. I can’t wait to be a part of the Sylhet Sixers family. See you soon!” Warner said in the video which was uploaded on the official Facebook page of the franchise. The tournament will start from January 5 to February 8.
In the 46 matches that Sixers ave played so far in the IPL, they have won 18 and lost 27. In their four appearances, only once have they qualified for the playoffs (2013), but are yet to open play a final of a tournament. With Warner in their squad now, you never know if their fortunes change this year.
In the 252 T20s that Warner has played in his more than decade-long career, he has scored 7,888 runs at an average of 35.21 and a strike rate of 142.40, including six centuries and 60 half-centuries.
In the 14 T20s that Warner has played this year, he has scored 316 runs at an average of 26.33 and a strike rate of 122.48, including a couple of half-centuries.
A prolific run-scorer in the IPL (Indian Premier League), Warner is likely to feature in the tournament this year for his year-long will ban by Cricket Australia will culminate in March.
