FIA give final verdict on Mercedes rear wheel holes
The Mercedes rear wheel holes have been subject to a lot of discussion since the US Grand Prix, where Ferrari raised questions about their legality and how similar they were to the ones that were banned for Red Bull in 2012.
The major concern for Ferrari and all the stakeholders involved was if the holes in the rear wheel was somehow helping Mercedes aerodynamically(as the wheel would have been an illegal moveable aerodynamic device).
The only thing that could have saved Mercedes was if the holes were for merely heat transfer and this exactly what the FIA has found out post its investigation of the Mercedes wheel.
“Should Mercedes run the part as described in the correspondence between Mercedes and the FIA’s Technical Department, the stewards would consider this part to be in conformity with the regulations, but only with respect to the points raised in Mercedes request.” the statement from the stewards read.

The approval from the FIA would come as a massive relief for Mercedes, as this was the first time in the season when instead of them raising a finger at someone, someone was raising a finger at them.
Mercedes will be going into the Mexico GP on the brink of sealing the driver’s championship, with Hamilton just needing 5 points to seal the deal.
If Mercedes just manage to ensure Hamilton gets over the line, he is sure to secure at least 7th place and hence should be able to seal the title in that case.
A new 5 time world champion should in all probability be roaming around the streets of Mexico on Sunday.
