MS Dhoni reaches No. 17 in ICC Rankings

MS Dhoni reaches No. 17 in ICC Rankings: The Indian wicket-keeper batsman has jumped three spots in the ICC ODI Rankings.

In the six ODIs which former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni has played this year, he has scored 242 runs at an average of 121 and a strike rate of 79.86. Scoring three half-centuries in five innings is commendable for a batsman who was coming on the back of a worst year (in terms of number of runs scored) in the same format.

Dhoni’s return to form has also seen him climb up the ladder in the batsmen’s list of the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Rankings. Currently at No. 17, the 37-year old cricketer would be looking to further climb up the ladder for his form will remain vital for India during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

Apart from Dhoni, all-rounder Kedar Jadhav (from No. 43 to No. 35) is the other Indian batsman who has improved his rank after the series against New Zealand. India captain Virat Kohli continues to rule the rankings at the top of the table.

Among the recently concluded ODI series between South Africa and Pakistan, South African top-order comprising of Quinton de Kock (from No. 9 to No. 8), Hashim Amla (from No. 16 to No. 13) and Reeza Hendricks (from No. 130 to No. 94) have all made improvements in their respective rankings.

Pakistan opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq, who scored 271 runs in five matches at an average of 54.20 and a strike rate of 81.62 and ended the series as its highest run-scorer, aided him to reach a career-best No. 16 position. Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell (from No. 32 to No. 30) and top-order batsman Shaun Marsh (from No. 60 to No. 43)  also made advancements in their ranks.

Having dismissed 12 batsmen in five matches at an average of 15, an economy rate of 3.92 and a strike rate of 22.9, New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult made a significant jump from No. 10 to No. 3 in the bowler’s rankings.

Yuzvendra Chahal, who remained India’s joint-highest wicket-taker (nine wickets at an average of 24.33, an economy rate of 5.34 and a strike rate of 27.3) in the series, moved from No. 6 to No. 5. Seven wickets in five matches have aided pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar to jump six spots to No. 17.

In the ODI team’s rankings, England and India continue to don the top two spots. A 1-4 series loss at home has forced New Zealand to drop a position lower than South Africa at No. 4. Read some of the latest Twitter reactions on the latest update in the ICC rankings below:
