WATCH: Dinesh Karthik’s exceptional catch to dismiss Daryl Mitchell at Wellington
Dinesh Karthik’s exceptional catch: The Indian wicket-keeper batsman put on display a praiseworthy effort at the boundary.
During the first T20I of the ongoing India’s tour of New Zealand at Wellington, India wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik displayed his exceptional fielding skills on the field as his agile and alert effort saw the end of debutant New Zealand batsman Daryl Mitchell.
It all happened on the last ball of the 15th over when Mitchell hit a Hardik Pandya delivery towards long-on. Karthik, who was fielding at the same fielding position, timed his jump to perfection to catch the ball. Going above the ropes due to the momentum, Karthik was alert enough to throw the ball in the air and then catch it after entering into the field of play.
He takes stunners, he drops sitters. Very odd for @DineshKarthik

Unsure of whether he had successfully pulled off the whole act, Karthik signaled the same to the umpire. It were the frequent replays which confirmed that the effort was clean and that the fielder’s foot hadn’t touched the boundary rope. Having earlier dropped an easy chance, Karthik would have been relived to get hold of this one.
Mitchell, who came in to bat at No. 5 on his debut, couldn’t contribute much as he ended up scoring 8 (6) with the help of one four.

After India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to field, the Kiwi opening batsmen stitched a quickfire 86-run partnership. Wicket-keeper batsman Tim Seifert ended up scoring his maiden T20I half-century, 84 (43), with the help of seven fours and six sixes.
