New Orleans Pelicans troll Magic Johnson and LeBron James after win against Lakers

The New Orleans Pelicans opted to rest Anthony Davis for the high profile fixture against the Lakers tonight.

With the two teams sharing an uncomfortable relationship this season, this game was always going to attract a lot of eyeballs. But when the Pelicans decided to rest Anthony Davis, the matchup did surely loose some of its spice.

However, the Pelicans made sure that the game had ‘fan appeal’, as they romped to a brilliant 128-115 win over the Lakers.

The Lakers seemed to be off the boil defensively, something that hampered their game through and through.

They now sit 10th in the Western Conference and have a 29-30 record, with the business end of the season upon us.

Pelicans’ coach, Alvin Gentry had some good words to say about his team, as they are trying to adjust to life without Anthony Davis.

“I just thought we played hard and we competed,” Gentry said, as quoted by Fox Sports New Orleans. 

“We did a good job I thought with the pace of the game, probably the best we’ve done this year as far as starting with good pace and keeping the pace going.” he added.

Now, post the win, one would have expected some words from the Pelicans camp about the Lakers’ approach of Anthony Davis before the trade deadline.

The Pelicans star had submitted a trade request days before the Feb 7 deadline and it was expected that the Lakers would secure his signature.

The saga took an ugly turn when the Pelicans essentially blamed the Lakers of tampering, with Magic Johnson and LeBron James cutting a sorry figure post the trade deadline.

Despite a very intriguing offer from the Lakers, the Pelicans management decided that they were not in favour of trading Davis, as the Lakers hadn’t acted in good faith.

Now, post the win tonight, the Pelicans took to twitter to troll both LeBron James and Magic Johnson for everything that had transpired prior to the trade deadline.

“Pelicans win in good faith” read the tweet from their official handle post the win(a direct swipe at both Magic Johnson and LeBron James).

LeBron James has been known to recruit players in the past and wanted Anthony Davis to move to LA as soon as possible. The former Cleveland man is desperate to form his own dynasty in LA, and needs another superstar on the Lakers roster in order to achieve that.

While the Lakers haven’t been able to provide LeBron a partner in crime, they would be hoping that the summer brings at least one of the big free agents to LA.
