Kimi Antonelli Crowns Mercedes’ $2.7M Beast Owned by Lewis Hamilton as His Dream Road Car: “It’s a Bit Too Fast”
While driving the fastest cars in the world comes as part and parcel of their jobs, F1 drivers crave speed even off the track too. And they satiate this innate and instinctive desire by getting their hands on some of the fastest sports or hypercars available. Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who is just starting to make a name for himself in the racing world, is eyeing one already. And it happens to be an ‘F1 car on road’, and comes with a Lewis Hamilton connection to boot.
At the 2025 Autosport Awards, Antonelli was asked what his dream car would be. After admitting that there would be many he would like to have in his garage, he picked one specific beast.
“One of my dream ones is the Project One,” said Antonelli, who has been roped in by Mercedes as Hamilton‘s replacement in the team.
Antonelli was referring to the Mercedes AMG One, a hypercar that costs $2.7 million. And Hamilton owns one.
Well, Antonelli harbors dreams of filling in the big shoes of the seven-time champion at Mercedes, possibly hoping to win a championship or two in the process as well. And this desire for one of Hamilton’s prized possessions could also be related to how badly he wants to emulate the Briton’s success.
Then again, the AMG One is a dream for any speed-seeking petrolhead. It became a highly sought-after acquisition for many enthusiasts since F1 engineering was involved in its making. It wasn’t even road-legal when it was first unveiled in 2017. The production version of the car was released in 2022.
“Of course it’s a bit too fast for the road,” Antonelli added. “So, I will be curious to see how it behaves on track.”

Antonelli could very well get a chance to try out the AMG-One, and perhaps even own one. After all, former drivers like Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas were each gifted one by Mercedes. His current teammate, George Russell, also has one. Hamilton even gifted one to his dad, Anthony.
However, the AMG-One’s production was very limited. Mercedes manufactured just 275 units, out of which most of them got sold or gifted very quickly.
The AMG-One is unlike any hypercar ever created, with data from F1 races being used while designing it. The car has a 1.6 l V6 engine with four electric motors. The top speed of the car is 219 mph (352 kmph), making it one of the fastest in the world.
