Rashid Khan injury: Why is Rashid Khan not bowling vs New Zealand in 2019 Cricket World Cup?
Rashid Khan injury: Afghanistan leg-spinner will take no further part in Afghanistan’s match vs New Zealand at Taunton.
During the 13th match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between Afghanistan and New Zealand at Taunton, it has been decided that Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan will not bowl in the second innings after being hit on the head while batting.
It all happened during the fourth delivery of the 34th over of Afghanistan’s innings when Rashid got out against New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson. In what was a brutal short ball, Rashid getting into a strange position did no good to him.
After hitting Rashid on the head, the bouncer eventually went on to hit his wickets. Other than walking back to the pavilion without scoring, Rashid also succumbed to a head injury.
There were clear doubts regarding the leg-spinner’s participation in the second innings. It was only during the second innings that it was confirmed that Rashid wouldn’t be taking any further part in the tournament. The same happened after Rashid failed the second concussion test. It is worth mentioning that the move was taken as a precautionary measure.
After New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and chose to field, Afghanistan got bundled out for 172 in 41.1 overs. Hashmatullah Shahidi, who came in to bat at No. 4 in the 12th over, top-scored for his team scoring 59 (99) with the help of nine fours.
With bowling figures of 10-1-31-5, New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham was the pick of the bowlers for his team. Defending a low score, Afghanistan will definitely miss their ace spinner in Rashid Khan.
