Chris Jericho compares AEW star with WWE Hall of Famer

Chris Jericho compares AEW star with WWE Hall of Famer . The first ever AEW World Champion was full of praises for the young wrestler.

Chris Jericho is a stalwart at AEW today. Before the creation of the promotion however, he wrestled all around the world in some of the biggest promotions alongside the best wrestlers. During his time in the WWE Jericho worked with Kurt Angle, a man who took to professional wrestling like fish to water despite not having a background in it.

Jericho belives a certain AEW star has that very same quality as the WWE Hall of Famer. Both of them prioritise character work over everything else and the former AEW Champion agrees  with the philosophy. In fact, he believes it to be even more important than the moves performed in the ring.

While speaking with Brandon Walker on Rasslin, Jericho discussed his young Inner Circle member MJF and drew parralels with Wrestling legend Kurt Angle.

“He reminds me a lot of Kurt Angle. What I mean is, he’s a guy that picked up wrestling so quick, not just in the ring, but character-wise. A lot of guys, 24 years old, don’t understand that character is the most important thing in wrestling. It’s more important than any move you can do or any match you can have. Max gets that.”

“Combine that with the fact that I think he was a child actor and in musicals, all the sort of things you need to expand on that character. He also doesn’t give a shit. He will do anything, to the point where we have to pull him back because you can’t yell at the five-year-old kid at a signing and make him cry.”

Jericho and MJF will pair up this Sunday against the Young Bucks for the AEW World Tag Team Championships at Revolution.  Jericho was the first ever World Champion in the young promotion’s history. He will look to add yet another accolade to his name.

Archie is a WWE and UFC Editor/Author at the SportsRush. Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
