Alexa Bliss reveals if she would ever compete in a ‘Bra and Panties’ match

Alexa Bliss reveals if she would ever compete in a ‘Bra and Panties’ match. The infamous stipulation was a staple of the Attitude and Ruthless Aggression Era.

The WWE like to present their female wrestlers as being equally and sometimes even more talented than their male counterparts. Before the exclusive pay per views and the main events however, the Wrestling industry in general and the WWE in particular, were not very inclusive of their female employees.

They were generally treated as eye candy and when they did wrestle it would barely last more than a couple of minutes. The only time they were given more than a passing glance was when they featured in a bra and panties match; a match stipulation where you have to strip your opponent to their bra and panties to win the match.

Alexa Bliss joined NXT in 2013; a period of transition for the women from Divas to wrestlers in the WWE. In a recent interview with  Charlotte Wilder of FOX, Bliss revealed that in her early training days, the WWE limited what moves they could learn because they believed that they were never going to use them.

She also opened up on the Bra and Panties matches. Bliss admitted that it was something she could never do. However, she tipped her hat for the women who did so, because of whom the women of today have received the opportunities they do now.

“When I first started in NXT, there were certain moves we weren’t required to learn because we were never going to do them,” She said. “The idea was a catfight. It all changed for me when I was watching a match with Paige and Emma. They did a top rope suplex and we were like, ‘Hell yeah, this is where it’s all going to change.’ It was awesome because it shows our women are athletic; can do what the men do, and can be seen in a different light. I respect the women who had to do the bra and panties match because I could never do it. Kudos, I couldn’t do it. You’ve got to respect that because they did that, for us to do what we do now.”

Archie is a WWE and UFC Editor/Author at the SportsRush. Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
