Reports from English outlets pin Anthony Martial to sign new contract at Manchester United.

It has been reported by a few reputed news outlets that the Frenchman is ready to sign a five year deal with the Red Devils with a closure expected this week.

The 22 year-old was tipped to leave the club after being considered surplus to Mourinho’s requirements, with the manager also ready to allow his exit. Tottenham Hotspur had enquired about the winger’s availability but Ed Woodward decided to keep the star man at the Old Trafford as he believes that his best is yet to come.

Anthony Martial has just one year still to go on his contract but United and the player have an option to add one more. It is now being understood that the former Monaco man will sign a five year contract, three years from having joined the Premier League giants as a 19 year old for 36 million pounds.

While Martial was available in the market, Manchester United had also shortlisted the likes of Chelsea’s Willian and Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic to replace him. There was even talk about the London club willing to get some cash and Martial to let go of Willian, but it was a deal that never advanced.

Despite being offered a new deal, there have been reports about a negative relationship between Mourinho and Martial. The 22 year old left Manchester United’s base in the United States during the pre-season tour this summer to look after his partner after she had delivered a baby boy.

Since then, the winger did not return to the States and only participated in United training once the team was back in Europe. There were also a few digs aimed by both- the player and the manager- at one another during the process.

Martial has just featured once this season, in the 3-2 defeat against Brighton while he was not even on the bench in the 3-0 loss to Spurs.
