“GP2 engine!” - Honda F1 boss Masashi Yamamoto goes back in time to illustrate how their successful association with the Red Bull family commenced.

Honda engine fired up for first time ahead of 2019 F1 season, with both Toro Rosso and Red Bull scheduled to use the engine.

It’s going to be a massive season for Honda this time round, as they enter the world of F1’s elite.

Red Bull made the bold decision to move on from Renault and acquire the services of Honda, despite the McLaren-Honda relationship having failed big time in the recent past.

The data received from Toro Rosso was good enough for Red Bull to confirm the switch, one because their relationship with Renault had gone bad and two because Honda was showing signs of good progress.

The 2019 engine development has apparently been very strong for Honda. Honda executives have been very bold with their predictions for the 2019 season, claiming that Red Bull and Max could have a good shot at the world title.

Horner has been impressed with how Honda have approached the 2019 season and feels that there is a marked improvement from their McLaren days.

“We’ve seen behind the scenes their evolution and they’re making good progress.” Horner said.

“I think stability of regulations will help them.

“They have settled on a concept that for the first time since their re-entry into Formula 1 has continued from one season to the next without it being a completely clean sheet of paper.

“It will all depend on what the others have done, but certainly versus themselves there’s been good progress.” he added.

Now, Toro Rosso and Red Bull will be using the same Honda engine for the 2019 season and Toro Rosso have released their first engine fire up audio.
