Barcelona agree personal terms with Luka Jovic: The club has reportedly taken another massive step towards building the squad for the future.

Barcelona are at the top of the table and extended their lead to six points over Real Madrid last night. However, Athletic Bilbao held them to a goalless draw.

The club gained a major boost last month as they secured the signing of Ajax’s youngster Frenkie de Jong, who had been a shining prospect for various European giants.

And now, according to German newspaper FAZ, Barcelona have taken another huge step over building the club for the future.

The Catalan giants have agreed personal terms with Bundesliga’s top scorer Luka Jovic. Here are the full details.

Barcelona agree personal terms with Luka Jovic:

Barcelona have reportedly agreed on personal terms with the Serbian striker and will now hold talks with Eintracht Frankfurt over the transfer fee.

It is a similar approach to Barcelona’s signing of Frenkie de Jong. The club initially agreed on personal terms with the player before discussing a transfer fee with Ajax for the move.

Luka Jovic is the highest goalscorer in the Bundesliga so far. The Eintracht Frankfurt striker has scored 14 goals in the league, scoring 19 across all competitions.

Jovic plays on loan at the Bundesliga side from Benfica. According to AS, Eintracht Frankfurt have already announced their desire to make the loan move permanent. This means Barcelona will have to negotiate with the German club for a transfer fee in the summer.

Jovic joined Eintrach Frankfurt in 2017 on a two-year loan deal. He made his international debut a year later and featured for Serbia in the World Cup.

Barcelona see the 21-year old as a long-term replacement for Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan striker turned 32 last month.

Earlier in the season, Suarez spoke about his future at Barcelona.

“At my age, I do not pay attention to what is said about me,” said Suarez.

“Criticism to myself – FC Barcelona needs a number nine.

Looking for one is normal, I’m 31 and the club needs to think about the future.”
