Barcelona and Ajax, the two European powerhouses could enter a transfer collaboration on two major conditions.
In the January transfer window, Barcelona completed the signing of Frenkie de Jong from Ajax.
As we approach the business end of the season, there have been reports of the Catalan side making a move for Ajax’s captain, Matthijs de Ligt as well.
The transfers between both the clubs have usually rendered favourable results for them, and the two clubs are now exploring possibilities of entering into a collaboration.
Let’s take a detailed look into this story:
Barcelona-Ajax transfer collaboration?
Both the clubs have their base on a similar school of thought. The clubs hold high regard for youth development, and are set on similar principles and philosophies.
According to a report from Sport, Ajax discarded an ‘astronomical offer’ from Paris-Saint Germain for Frenkie de Jong to enter negotiations with Barcelona.
The Dutch side believes that a transfer to Barcelona is a step ahead in a player’s football career.
The report suggests that the mutual understanding between both the clubs could lead to a transfer collaboration, which could be based on two major conditions.
- Barcelona would hold precedence over the signing of Ajax’s youth players who perform impressively in domestic and European competitions. The signing of Frenkie de Jong, and an interest in Matthijs de Ligt are a prime example of such a partnership.
- In return, Barcelona would provide the Dutch side with players who get limited to no game time in the club’s first-team but could excel for Ajax in the Dutch league. The Catalan side may also provide Ajax with its own youth players who could benefit from the first-team experience with the Dutch side, thus aiding both the sides.

The idea of reading a collaboration is about Barça having priority to sign players that come through at Ajax while they will enjoy loans from Barcelona which will help them greatly in the Dutch league. [sport]

According to Sport ES, Barcelona and Ajax are exploring the idea of a collaboration in which Barca would have ‘first choice’ on any of Ajax’s talent and Ajax would get ‘first choice’ on any players Barca were looking to loan out.
Basically, Ajax wanted to get absolutely shafted.
