Barcelona might be set to steal Arsenal’s transfer target Steven Nzonzi.

Barcelona may have had a slow start to the summer transfer window, but the Spanish giants have now made three signings in the last three weeks. Arthur was the first to arrive at the club from Brazilian club Gremio, and Barca later announced the signings of Clement Lenglet and Malcolm.

The Catalan club are strongly linked with French midfielder Adrien Rabiot as well, and reports suggest that Eric Abidal travelled to Paris to discuss a potential transfer with the player’s representatives.

English media outlet SKY now reports that the Spanish giants have also entered the race to sign Sevilla midfielder Steven Nzonzi. The French played a crucial role in France’s successful World Cup campaign this summer. Nzonzi is heavily linked with Premier League club Arsenal since the beginning of the transfer window.

Unai Emery has worked with Steven Nzonzi during his time at Sevilla FC, and various reports suggested that he was interested in bringing the French player to Arsenal.

However, SKY journalist Kaveh Solhekol now reveals that Arsenal may drop their interest on Nzonzi due to the asking price. Solhekol also says that it is unlikely that Arsenal would be able to finish the transfer before the Premier League deadline of August 9.

The journalist also reports that Barcelona have made a surprise entrance in the race to sign the French player.

“Steven Nzonzi is likely to leave Sevilla this summer. We are told Barcelona are interested in him,” says Solhekol.

FC Barcelona will begin their Spanish season with the Supercopa de Espana on August 13, against Sevilla.
