BBL 2019 final: Who will win if BBL final gets abandoned due to rain?

BBL 2019 final: The final of the ongoing ninth season of the Big Bash League is under the scanner due to weather conditions.

The final match of the ongoing ninth season of the Big Bash League between Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Stars will be played tomorrow in Sydney. The final being played between the top two teams in the points table speaks highly about the quality of both the oppositions.

There is no going into a safe house regarding the fact that the match appears to be under the scanner due to inclement weather forecast in Sydney. It is due to the same reason that the Bushfire Relief Match has been shifted to a different date and venue.

A final of the tournament of such a standard getting washed out due to rain would be the last thing which anyone would be hoping for.

Having said that, going by the weather forecast and the fact that there is no reserve day for the final, the same might become a harsh reality by this time tomorrow.

As far as deciding the winner of the tournament is considered, a washout will mean that hosts Sydney Sixers will lift their second BBL title. Sixers had earlier won the inaugural season of the Big Bash League in 2011-12.

Under the BBL rules and regulations for 2019-20, rule 16.10.2.7 states: “If there is a tie (with no ‘Super Over’ possible), No Result or an Abandoned match in the “Grand Final” then the home team shall be declared the winner of the “Grand Final” and BBL Champions.”

It is worth mentioning that the home team was decided after the Qualifier of the tournament which witnessed the top two ranked teams in Stars and Sixers lock horns against each other. Chasing a 143-run target, Melbourne were bundled out for 99 in a shambolic batting performance at MCG.

Other than handing a 43-run victory to the visitors, the match also decided that Sydney will be the new No. 1 seed team and will host the final.

It is also worth mentioning that a minimum of five overs need to be bowled in both the innings to decide the winner of the tournament via a complete match.
