BCCI's answer to Virat Kohli's request regarding WAGs

BCCI’s answer to Virat Kohli’s request regarding WAGs: The Indian board has finally replied to the Indian captain’s request.

Indian captain Virat Kohli was recently in the news regarding a request to the the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). Apparently, Kohli had opined for the decision of wives and girlfriends of cricketers accompanying them to overseas tours.

On being asked about the Indian captain’s request, the board had replied that no immediate decision would be taken by the officials and that the final decision will be taken by the new office-bearers of the BCCI.

However, the concern was discussed by the recently held meeting between the members of the Indian team and the COA.

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, the CoA wants to follow the policy which is in place by the Cricket Australia. As per this policy, the CA works with the Australian Cricketers Association (the players’ union) and then chalks out a certain period for the families, which is called the family period. This aforementioned period keeps varying with different series and is dependent on the length of the tours.

Talking about the overseas tours, India are scheduled to tour Australia next month. It will be followed by a tour of New Zealand and then the all-important ICC Cricket World Cup 2015

In an interview with India Today, India cricketer Gautam Gambhir was vocal about this topic. “The player opinion varies. Only an individual can say because the individual has to play a Test match. Some want family to be there for the whole tour while others want little family time and they try to concentrate (on cricket),” the 37-year old southpaw quoted.

As we are writing this, Kohli is currently batting alongside vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane against West Indies at Hyderabad. Read some of the recent Twitter reactions on the ongoing match below:
