Tennis legend Boris Becker believes Federer can be World Number One by the end of this year. Becker believes that the Swiss master has re discovered his mojo and thinks that he could ride his current wave of momentum all the way to the top of the world rankings as quickly as the end of 2017.

Becker was previously the coach of Novak Djokovic which is why he never spoke much about the Swiss so as to prevent any potential friction between the two players. But now that he has parted company with the Serbian, Becker has praised Federer and paid tribute to his enormous talent and professionalism which is why Becker believes Federer can be World Number One again.

“Having played at a such High level in the last three months allows him to have big hopes and to set the Year-End No. 1 as realistic goal. I think he was surprised more than anyone after not playing for half a year. He is an over 30 man and people didn’t expect such great performances.”

Becker also spoke about Djokovic and his recent troubles. His former student has had a rough few months which could be traced back to his loss in the Rio Olympics last year. He has then lost several matches which led to him losing his World Number ranking to Andy Murray. But Becker had some kind words for Djokoivc and believes that he will bounce back very soon.

“He’s a too big of a champion and too strong of a player not to discover what made him strong. He had a difficult start, but the year is long.”

Boris Becker has been a legend of the game and both Federer and Djokovic should be well advised to take his words seriously.
