Bernd Leno reveals how Arsenal players reacted to Shkodran Mustafi's mistakes vs Palace

Bernd Leno has revealed how the Arsenal players reacted to Shkodran Mustafi’s horrific mistake during the game against Crystal Palace.

Arsenal suffered a setback in their pursuit for a top-4 finish in the Premier League last weekend, when the side faced a 3-2 defeat to Crystal Palace.

Shkodran Mustafi made errors for all the three goals as Arsenal missed a major chance to climb in the league table. Instead, the loss pushed them down to the fifth position in the league.

Unai Emery’s side faces a tough away fixture at Molineux Stadium, where Arsenal takes on Wolverhampton Wanderers.

While Mustafi was criticised and trolled for his performance, the Arsenal goalkeeper, Bernd Leno, came out in support for the German defender. Mustafi apologized to the fans after his performance, but Leno insisted that there was no need to be sorry.

He also revealed the reaction in the dressing room to Mustafi’s howlers.

Bernd Leno on Mustafi:

The Arsenal goalkeeper stated that the players were disappointed because Arsenal missed out on a brilliant opportunity to capitalize on their rival’s loss.

“It was very quiet [after the game], everybody was disappointed and frustrated because it was a big chance,” Leno began.

“But when the manager came in he said ‘no worries, it’s a disappointing result and a disappointing day but we have to look forward to the next game because qualification for the Champions League is still in our hands’.”

However, Leno refused to blame the loss on Shkodran Mustafi, stating that one man could never be the reason behind a team’s loss.

“There are so many mistakes in the game. Every goal is about mistakes so it is not a big problem when someone loses the ball and we concede a goal. ”

It’s not a big problem because we are one team, we stay together so everything is easy.

We are one team. We win together and we lose together. It’s not that one player has to apologise for a mistake. It was maybe a wrong decision for the second goal but you can’t change it. Mistakes happen. I think there was 30 minutes still to play so we had big time still to win the game.”

What next?

Arsenal will return to action later tonight as the side takes on Wolves. If the side registers a win in the game, Arsenal will move back to top-4, as Chelsea dropped points against Burnley.
