The only series in the Conference Semi-Finals on either conference that seems to have definitively swung one way with a 3-1 lead that looks unassailable at this point. The entire Milwaukee team seems to be clicking at this point and if you care to look beyond KD and Harden in the Warriors Rocket series, the Bucks team right now seems the best of the lot across the playoffs and in with a good shot for the title.
They have to finish off the Celtics though. That is if the Celtics do not finish themselves off. For much of the regular season in the midst of all the dysfunction and squabbling, there was one theme that was common among the Celtics. They kept promising us that they are a playoffs team and come the playoffs they would suddenly shed all the problems and emerge as a beast that the Boston fans expected this team to be.
But 4 games into the 2nd round and the Celtics look about ready to pack it up and go home. Kyrie Irving who had recently changed his tune to blaming himself for losses and poor performances, went back to his old guns and turned them towards the young players and their inexperience which according to him is costing them the series and not the fact that the as the supposed messiah and leader of the team, Kyrie has the following shooting numbers in the last 3 games (all losses): 4 for 18 in game 2, 8 for 22 in game 3 and 7 for 22 in game 4.
He remained defiant after the loss saying he should have shot more and taken more than 30 shots because he is “that great of a shooter”, in his own words. For an undersized point guard he does have a massive head on those shoulders.
The Bucks could not be having a better series. Their defense is top notch being led by Eric Bledsoe, Giannis and Pat Connaughton, while everyone on their offense has dialed up their performances led by Giannis and Khris Middleton. If there is one thing they would like to see its an improvement in the scoring numbers for Eric Bledsoe, who has been passive with his scoring, but it works in the current system of switch heavy defense that Boston is playing on everyone other than Giannis.
The Celtics need to climb out of this whole and win a game or two to at least so they end the season with a little dignity after starting off with so much promise. And whether they like it or not, Kyrie Irving has to be the guy to step up if they want a win in game 5.
He is their primary scorer and as long as he stays on court, the other players will look to him to lead them offensively. Al Horford also needs a big game on offense as it is now clear even he can not contain Giannis anymore. Even those two putting in good numbers might not be enough. The Celtics will need good contributions from Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. Brown has been a standout performer for the Celtics this series, but Tatum has been nothing more than an average offensive player these playoffs and needs a big game or people might finally catch on to the fact that he isn’t the next star that people were thinking he is. (He isn’t).
