Carlos Brathwaite will always be remembered for his heroics in the 2016 World T20 final. With 19 required off the last over, Brathwaite smashed four consecutive sixes, to crown West Indies as the world T20 champions. The bowler on the receiving end of that thrashing was a certain Ben Stokes. Stokes has come a long way after that, as Carlos Brathwaite says that this player will have the highest price tag in IPL 2018.

Ben Stokes was bought by the Rising Pune Supergiants, for a mouth watering Rs 14.5 crores. While many people raised their eyebrows at this, Stokes’ performances in this season’s IPL has shown that he is worth every penny.

Stokes emerged as one of the most valuable players in the IPL this year, as his all round performances were one of main reasons why Pune made it to the playoffs. In the 12 matches that he played, he scored 316 runs at an average of 31.60 while also picking up 12 wickets at an economy rate of 7.18.

He has won several matches for the RPSG all on his own, with his brilliant century being one of the highlights of the tournament.

And now, Brathwaite believes that Stokes could go for an even higher amount in next season’s mega auction.

“He (Stokes) has always been a decent bowler. I don’t think one bad night should define his career and in the aftermath of the World T20, that seemed to be the case. There was probably a lot more spotlight on him in this tournament than usual because of the price tag, and he has shown a lot of mental toughness in returning to India and the scene of the crime, if you want to call it that,” Brathwaite told Sky Sports.

The Delhi Daredevils player added, “There will be another big auction next year, and if he is allowed to return – depending on England commitments – he could go for an even heftier price tag. Players like Stokes are worth their weight in gold and if he continues the way he is going, he will fetch a large amount again.”
