While the country waited with bated breath to hear who will be at the helm of affairs in Indian Cricket, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman declared that the Indian coach would be announced in a few days time.

The CAC interviewed five candidates, namely Shastri, Lalchand Rajput, Sehwag, Pybus and Moody. The CAC has taken down notes, listened to how the coaches would function but want to speak to Virat about it before they go ahead with the decision.

In the press conference held a few moments back, Sourav Ganguly addressed the media, saying that the coach will be announced after consultation with Virat Kohli, as it is the captain who needs to be comfortable with the way a coach functions.

The CAC stressed on the fact that it is the players who have to ultimately go out and produce results, and hence they need to be in sync with the coach’s methods. And as the captain speaks for the entire team, they deem fit that he be consulted before taking the decision.

Virat Kohli is presently in the United States, as he is returning to India after the West Indies tour, and should be in India in a day or two.

Sourav Ganguly said that there was no urgency with respect to the announcement of the coach, and that the CAC wanted everyone on board in order to avoid what happened in Kumble’s case.

When asked if it ultimately meant that Kohli would be the deciding factor, Ganguly said that the ‘system’ will be discussed and not the ‘candidate’.

Indian fans will now have to wait as the CAC and the BCCI will take some time in announcing the next Indian Head Coach.

Ganguly once again stressed on the fact that the new coach will continue until the 2019 World Cup.
