Champions League 2019/20 Top-Scorers: 5 players who can win the Golden boot in the new season of the UCL which will kick-off on Tuesday night.

Champions League season 2019/20 is upon us, and just like every year best teams in Europe vie against each other to win the glorious trophy.

Moreover, along with team performances, certain individual performances become the highlights of the tournament and are remembered for the years.

There is no doubt that the battle for the top-scorer in this tournament as intense as the main tournament itself, every goal is very crucial over here, since it is a knockout tournament between the biggest clubs in Europe.

Last season, Lionel Messi won the award after scoring 12 goals across all matches. On the other hand, Robert Lewndowski, Kun Aguero and long time rival Cristiano Ronaldo followed him with 8 goals to Polish striker and Aguero and Ronaldo levelling at 6.

Thus, even this time there will be a stiff competition for this award, as in recent past, the Champions League nights have turned into goal-fests.

Moreover, with revelation of the winner of the tournament, there is an anticipation over who will win this award. Adding further, fans of Messi and Ronaldo also base their arguments over this award too.

Hence, just like every year, a new top-scorer is awaited. Although since recent past, it has been dominated by Messi and Ronaldo only.

The Sportsrush will now mention 5 players who can be the Champions League 2019/20 top-scorer, as the first group stage round begins on Tuesday night.

#1 Robert Lewandowski

Champions League 2019 Top-ScorersThe Polish striker has a great record in the European competition and have scored 53 goals in the 38 games he have played in the Champions League so far.

Lewandowski even had an impressive Champions League campaign last season after he scored 8 goals in 8 games in the tournament to upgrade his tally, making him second to Lionel Messi in the top-scorer list.

Therefore, the Polish international is a definite contender to contest for the Champions League golden boot. Even though many feel that Lewandowski is past his peak years and have aged to repeat this feat.

However, Lewansowski still seem to have some steam left in him ahead of the start of the new season.

#2 Raheem Sterling

Champions League 2019 Top-Scorers

Raheem Sterling is in a phenomenal run of form and surely will play a crucial role in Manchester City’s campaign this season. The English International has already been impressive in premier League and International matches this season.

Moreover, he will be a regular player in the lineup in comparison to Sergio Aguero. Hence, it looks like Sterling has a great chance to make a mark in the Champions League.

His ability to play at any position in the field adds to his qualities, and can be a trouble to his opposite players because of the pace he carries.

Last season, Sterling scored 5 goals, a little less to compete for the top-scorer award, but with the form the English forward has picked up can be crucial in achieving even more remarkable feats.

#3 Mohamed Salah

Champions League 2019 Top-Scorers

Liverpool are among the top contenders to win the Champions League this season, and who can rule out their main man Mohamed Salah from this list.

The European Champions are expected to emulate the same feat once again, meaning they will at least be able to get into the later stages of the tournament.

Salah has been in a phenomenal run of performances ever since arriving at Liverpool and have helped the Reds to achieve the highest prize in Europe after 14 years.

Since then, Liverpool have been as explosive as the they were in the latter stages of last season. Although, in this race Salah is not alone, since Sadio Mane also have a fair voice to contest for being the top-scorer.

Last season, both the players scored 9 goals combined, 5 to Salah and 4 to Mane. However, this time it is expected that they will take the notch even higher.

#2 Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo

The top-scorer in the history of this competition and arguably having the greatest performances in this tournament, Ronaldo always has a case in this award.

Although, the portuguese International missed to be in the top-scorer list last season, as he was knocked out by Ajax in the quarter-final round, and remained six goals behind Messi.

But this time Ronaldo would be expected to make performances which he used to make in Real Madrid, since the Italian club has hired him to achieve success in the Champions League.

Moreover, with the fitness levels of Ronaldo, even at the age of 34, Ronaldo can still be successful in repeating his past records.

#1 Lionel Messi
Champions League 2019 Top-Scorers

Just like Ronaldo, nobody can leave drop Lionel Messi from this list. The Barcelona captain has promised the club fans, a Champions league trophy this season, hence it would not be surprising if Messi decides to gived his all for the coveted trophy.

Last season, Messi was untouchable in the Champions League tally of top-scorers, and considering the abilities of the Argentine International, he can surely repeat it once again.

Although, Messi is still doubtful over his team’s first appearance in the Champions League 2019/20 against Borrussia Dortmund.

But Messi has the capability of compensating for the loss, as he can score a hattrick against any side to increase his tally.
