Can Delhi Capitals Still Qualify For Playoffs: Is David Warner-Led Team Out Of IPL 2023?

The Delhi Capitals were just not up for the task on the sluggish Chepauk Stadium track in Chennai, as they lost the crucial fixture against Chennai Super Kings by 27 runs.

Having headed into the match with them placed right at the bottom of the points table, and with a Net Run Rate (NRR) the worst amongst all the other teams, the Capitals’ loss tonight has handed them a major dent with respect to their chances of making it through to the IPL 2023 playoffs.

With four wins and seven losses off 11 league matches now, they are still holding the wooden spoon with mere 8 points under their belt.

Can Delhi Capitals Still Qualify For Playoffs

With three league matches left to play, DC have entered into the must-win territory where one more loss will eliminate them from the ongoing season right away.

Wins in each of the three matches will take their points tally to 14, but in order to qualify for the playoffs, they would also require several other teams’ results to go their way as well.

Moreover, even if other teams’ results do go their way, they will have to register convincing victories in each of these matches, so as to boost their Net Run Rate (NRR), which post the loss tonight stands at -0.605.

Another not-so positive news for them is that all the teams could still finish at 16 points, but them. Thus, the moment four teams manage to garner 16 points, they automatically get eliminated.

UPDATE: Delhi Capitals have been eliminated from IPL 2023 after becoming the first team to lose eight league matches.
