India wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant had a tough time on his arrival in International cricket. He was seen as a replacement of former Indian captain MS Dhoni. However, neither he was able to score runs with the bat in white-ball cricket nor he was able to do his job well with gloves.

The fans were also making pressure on the southpaw and once former India capatin Virat Kohli also asked the audience to not chant Dhoni’s name to insult Pant. Legendary Australian wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist also came out to support Pant by asking the Indian fans to not compare him with Dhoni.
Gilchrist highlighted that Dhoni’s ability is very difficult to match as he set such huge benchmarks in his career. Dhoni’s work behind the wickets is considered one of the best in the game. Gilchrist labeled Pant as a talented player and said that extra pressure on him won’t do anything good for the youngster.
Adam Gilchrist Once Advised Rishabh Pant To Be The Best Version of Himself
Gilchrist also advised Pant to learn as much as he can from Dhoni but should not try to copy him. He rather asked Pant to become the best version of himself rather than becoming a bit like Dhoni. Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir had also also suggested the same to Pant earlier.
“My advice to Rishabh Pant will be: learn everything you can from Dhoni. Don’t try to be Dhoni. Just try to be the best Rishabh Pant you can,” Gilchrist said in a promotional event.
Gilchrist also had said that Pant is perfectly suited for Test cricket as he is someone who always looks to attack and the field dimensions in red-ball cricket will favour him. Gilly was also an attacking wicket-keeper and once former Australian captain Ricky Ponting hailed Pant as the next Gilchrist.
Rishabh Pant is the Indian wicket-keeper to score Test century in England and Australia
Pant has already achieved some great feats in red-ball cricket. He is the first and only Indian wicket-keeper to score Test centuries in England, Australia and South Africa. Dhoni never scored a Test century in SENA countries in his whole Test journey.
In 2022, Pant scored the fastest Test half-century by an Indian batter. He scored fifty in just 28 balls against Sri Lanka breaking the record of former Indian captain Kapil Dev. Dev scored a 30-ball fifty against Pakistan in Karachi in 1982.
