His sheer ability to tell his listeners some great stories from the sport and its players, coupled with his amazing use of analogies is one of the great USPs of the renowned Indian Cricket broadcaster and commentator Harsha Bhogle.

Hailing from a humble yet privileged background with father being a French professor and the mother one in Psychology, Harsha was just another boy who just loved watching and playing the sport, like tens of thousands of others in India do.

Although his love for the sport never faded away, academics is what seemed like the way forward for him as the one belonging from an educated family. While he earned a B.Tech degree in chemical engineering from Hyderabad and was even an alumni at the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad, Harsha had worked at the All India Radio at the age of 19, as a Cricket commentator.
Harsha Bhogle Cricket career
The ace commentator then worked in an advertisement agency for some good couple of years, followed by another two years at a sports management company. This four year period and the experience gained through them has helped Harsha reach where he is today in his career – being recognized as the ‘Voice of Cricket’.
As far as his Cricket career is concerned, during his B.Tech days at the Osmania University’s College of Technology in Hyderabad, the now 61-year-old had then represented his college in the Rohinton Baria Tournament.
Apart from the college leagues, Harsha also played some A division matches in Hyderabad, which happens to be his only experience of playing the sport.
Has the Harsha Bhogle played in the Ranji Trophy?
No, the aforementioned experiences are Harsha Bhogle’s lone ones of playing the sport, after which he devoted his full time working hard on his broadcasting, commentating skills, while also writing pieces for the renowned newspapers like the Indian Express.
He has not represented his state at any level, and thus not been part of any of the Ranji Trophy teams in the past.
