Former Indian captain MS Dhoni and legendary Sachin Tendulkar share immense mutual respect for each other. Both of them played a lot of cricket together and were part of the Indian squad which won ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. Tendulkar even once compared Dhoni to his late father Ramesh Tendulkar.

Sachin said that Dhoni’s nature to stay calm in almost every situation reminds him of his father. Dhoni is also called ‘Captain Cool’ for his ability to keep his head still under pressure . Tendulkar went on to reveal that Dhoni was the best captain he played under during his career.
Sachin’s father passed away in 1999 due to a heart attack and he was a key figure in shaping his child’s cricketing career. Whenever Sachin used to score a century, he looked up at the sky after removing the helmet to pay respect to his father. Sachin always wished to win a World Cup and when that dream became true, his father was not with him.
Sachin Tendulkar Once Compared MS Dhoni to Ramesh Tendulkar
Senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai revealed in his book ‘Democracy XI’ that once Tendulkar narrated similarities between Dhoni and his father. Tendulkar had highlighted that his father always wanted everyone to have a mindset similar to that of Dhoni.
“From the very first time we met, Mahi has given me complete respect. Maybe he reminds me a bit of my father; be it in success or failure, Mahi is always calm like my father always wanted all of us to be,” Tendulkar had said as quoted in Democracy XI.
It was Tendulkar only who advised BCCI to make Dhoni the captain of the side in 2007 T20 World Cup. India won that trophy and Dhoni’s magical journey started after it. Tendulkar was like God for Dhoni and he also wanted to play like him. However, he soon realized that he could never copy his idol.
Ramesh Tendular’s Profession
Ramesh Tendulkar was a novelist and a Marathi poet. ‘Manas Lahari’, ‘Prajakta’, etc. are some of his famous releases. He completed his schooling at the Konkan Education Society in Alibaug and moved to Mumbai for his higher studies. Ramesh was also a professor at Kirti College in Mumbai.
When he passed away, Sachin was with the Indian team for ICC Cricket World Cup 1999 in England. He flew back to be part of his father’s last rites. Rajni Tendulkar (Sachin’s mother) then convinced Sachin to join back the squad. In his first match after going back, he played a knock of 140 runs against Kenya and dedicated it to his father.
