Australia wicket-keeper batter Ben McDermott became the first cricketer to do the rounds in the news on the morning of the auction for the forthcoming 16th season of the Indian Premier League. It was hours before the start time of the auction in Kochi that McDermott withdrew his name from the list of shortlisted cricketers due to unknown reasons.

In spite of registering themselves, players are allowed to withdraw their names both before an auction or even after earning a bid. Hence, there was nothing surprising about McDermott’s decision this morning.

However, the development means that a grand total of 404 cricketers will be fighting for the 87 available slots. It is worth mentioning that there is still a possibility of a player or two getting added to list of eligible players as franchises tend to show last-minute interest in players who haven’t been originally shortlisted.

With only one platform eligible to live stream IPL 2023 and all related programs, fans won’t get to watch the same on Disney+Hotstar. Considering how fans had been used to follow everything related to the IPL on Disney+Hotstar for the last half-a-decade, it might require a change on their part to switch to Jio Cinema and its offerings.
