Kolkata Knight Riders batter Venkatesh Iyer has become only the second cricketer to score a century for the franchise in the history of the Indian Premier League. Been in some form this year after a lacklustre IPL 2022, Iyer made the most of his solid touch by registering a maiden T20 hundred at the Wankhede Stadium today.

Coming in to bat at No. 3 in the second over, Iyer first attacked debutant Arjun Tendulkar (0/17) in the next over. A four and a six against the left-arm pacer were followed by a six and a four off all-rounder Cameron Green (1/20) in the following over. Iyer, who faced a nasty blow near his knee in the same over, struggled with pain for a short while before resuming normal services.
The left-handed batter then took on another debutant in Duan Jansen (1/53) by hitting him for a couple of sixes in the fifth over. Mumbai Indians spinner Hrithik Shokeen, too, was welcomed with a couple of fours by a batter who was showing no signs of stopping even after the completion of the powerplay.
Taking revenge for captain Nitish Rana‘s (5) dismissal and subsequent aggressive send-off by Shokeen, Iyer smashed a four and a six in the same over to not let the visitors face ramification of loss of wickets from the other end.
Even fast bowler Riley Meredith‘s (1/40) introduction into the attack couldn’t restrict Iyer as he hit two sixes off the Australian speedster. The fact that no other batter from the visiting team had scored a boundary up until this point in time speaks highly of Iyer putting on display an archetype one-man show on a Sunday afternoon. It was on the fourth delivery of the 17th over when Iyer ran a single off Jansen to reach the three-figure mark.

Manish Pandey IPL Century
Currently representing Delhi Capitals, former Knight Riders batter Manish Pandey had never hit a century for them. Pandey, who played for the franchise between 2014-2017, had scored 1,442 runs across 57 innings for KKR at an average of 32.77 and a strike rate of 126.83 including seven half-centuries.
As far as his maiden IPL century is concerned, Pandey had become the first-ever Indian cricketer (second uncapped player) to score an IPL century whilst playing for Deccan Chargers way back in 2009.
